Hey Friends, it's "Joni On The Go" for an exciting musical adventure and catch up with the joyful, soulful, singer and songwriter Jennie DeVoe! She's back on stage kicking things off at the Brown County Playhouse . February, 21st for one night only. I've known Jennie for years and she was one of the FIRST artists to come and play LIVE on the FOX59 Morning show. In 2004, LIVE music on a morning news program was just crazy and no other local TV station was doing that combo thing of entertainment in the studio and going back to the anchor desk for hard news. As a music & entertainment & traffic reporter I knew this concept would work. After convincing the powers that be (Producers, News Directors etc...) I reached out to Jennie and she graciously agreed to perform LIVE at 7am in the morning! I also knew one of our first performers had to be an artist who had a lot of depth and soul and love for the community. No brainer, Jennie Devoe to the FOX 59 stage! And viewers loved the experience. Jennie brings her talent and heart to every stage and it's one of things I admire most about her not only as an artist but as a person.

Joni Michels:

Jennie you're such a welcomed staple at legendary venues like the Brown County Playhouse and The Jazz Kitchen in Indy! What does your 2026 schedule look like at this point. Any surprises for fans?

Jennie DeVoe:

" I think it’s pretty amazing that I’ve been a steadily employed singer & songwriter with such incredible fans for so long in this city! It’s literally unreal to me. To be able to support myself, sing jingles, travel all over the U.S. and even go across the pond and make 3 records in the UK just doing what I love is so lucky . Credit to my band and our fans, truly, for loving & supporting us. We don’t take it lightly. I feel a little lucky but also like I followed my heart and my dreams and I put myself out there and worked to write good songs and find my voice. I’m sure we’re still going because of the fans. And yeah, it’s incredible to be able to play at cool intimate theaters & venues like the Brown County Playhouse on February 21st.

It’s a perfect venue for someone like me who loves when the lights go down and you and the audience begin the dance of feeding off one another for that high you can only create in that atmosphere. There’s nothing like it. I love this stage and so does my band.

You can’t mail it in when everyone’s quietly waiting for you to perform. I feed off of that attention, my focus comes together, stories come to me and I feel lifted. That’s the time I really center as a songwriter and begin the musical conversation with my band. It feels new every time if we remain present together. And yes, 2026 we will be many places! The Jazz Kitchen in Indy, Taste of Tippicanoe festival in Lafayette, Blues in the Burg festival in Brownsburg, the Roachdale Blues Festival in Roachdale, Danville, Mooresville and some other cool places I’m excited about!

Joni Michels:

I hear you're doing a collaboration with another amazing artist, Dane Clark, who is out drumming with Mellencamp. Is this a duet that you both wrote together?

When can fans expect to hear the new duet?

Jennie DeVoe:

"I love Dane! He’s so solid and a talented and the consummate professional. He loves drumming and he worked very hard to get where he is - a primo spot playing with John Mellencamp! He’s been with him 30 years! Along the way I worked with Dane when we were making Meijer Superstores commercials .

I got lucky and worked at a music studio in Broadripple with the guys who owned ripplefx: music studio - Bill Mallers and Chris Lieber. Dane played drums and I sang the lead for all those commercials and did the voice overs for five wonderful fun years. It was like a new mini song every week. The work was so good and really taught me how to sing on a mic in a studio under pressure. That’s where I met Dane. Later, he’d have me come sing background on his own original records or other people’s records he was producing.

The latest cool thing was he asked me to sing on a duet with him for his upcoming album, probably due out in the spring. He wrote it with one of his collaborators. We had fun recording it. He lets me feel out different approaches and he’s really good at letting me feel out where I feel right and then he reels me in, haha! He can play, sing, drum, write and produce so it’s fun to work with someone who speaks such a well-rounded musical language."

Joni Michels:

Your music and your lyrics are so rich and can really make a person reflect and feel so many kinds of emotion (especially this fan). Do you have a process for writing music?

Jennie DeVoe:

"Aww, man, thank you Joni. Well, I’ve certainly feel I’ve felt ALL the emotions and been through a lot in my own life. I was always sensitive and an over-thinker I guess. It’s just in my nature so I guess I put it to use. I’ve always liked to write things out even just for myself to see if I could explain things - to myself or to others. Forming clear thoughts with words became an obsession and so then songwriting is the artist in me who likes to do that creatively and poetically.

I love painting pictures with words and metaphors. And when people latch onto that, it’s such a great feeling to know they get what you are trying to say and sing. Singing adds the potency and the final touch of emotion and winks and clever deliveries and tone. It’s all free too! Meaning, I can sit and do this and it doesn’t cost me a thing. That is, until I turn it into a lasting recording. I think writing songs has such power to work through things for the writer of the song first and foremost. Then, after life balances itself a bit, you can approach songwriting as an art and a craft but still tap into your own life experience and life around you to make good songs relatable to others.

I love the exercise of collaborating with someone else and watching something form right in the moment. I like working with good players so they can better hear where I’m going with an idea. They can get there faster than me sometimes. But I do like writing by myself too. Songs for me come from so many unique moments. One thought or one line and it grows from that seed. Words first or melody first or guitar or piano chords first. I come up with melodies in my head way too much and I’m usually still fixing lines and melodies and rhythms even as I’m in the studio recording the song.

It ain’t over till it’s over, as they say. Sometimes in the studio your senses and intuitions are sharper and things get more clear as to what the song itself wants to do. Always follow where the song wants to go. So I may start out with an idea and by the time I’m done writing, it’s taken on a whole new meaning even for me. I’ve always loved to sing, so to do both, just makes me grateful I can do it on any level. "

Joni Michels:

Jennie you give so much back to community and your love for pets. How are you able to shine that love through your music? And have you ever written a song about any of your pets?

Jennie DeVoe:

" I love animals more than I can begin to express. All animals - horses, dogs, cows, rhinos, elephants, cats, otters, birds, possums, turtles, penguins shoebill stork — you name it. I’ve had the coolest encounters in life because of animals. I had dogs growing up. My Dad almost bought me a horse because I loved them so much. I got to do a private show at Tony Stewarts house once and he had handlers from the Columbus Zoo there with a cheetah, serval cat, penguin, kangaroo…..I was in absolute heaven! There were two baby mountain lions that were saved from the Colorado fires. The caretakers were amazing and made the environment and nice and calm for each animal. I love my own animals so much and have had about 9 dogs and 4 cats while married to Rob. We just help where we can.

I have not yet written a song for just one of my critters. But if one of them passes I will get choked up when I sing my song Blue Sky Big Sun. They seem to be in there somewhere. So many animals need help and adopted. I would love to see more laws protecting animal rights. They have no voice so we have to speak for them. Caring is so easy. There are so many great animal rescues around our state and so many good national organizations. Jump in, get your feet wet, find one you can be passionate about. Find a congressman you can bug to change the puppy mill laws so animals don’t have to spend 8 solid years being bred in a cage and then discarded or killed. It’s inhumane and it’s real. We can all speak up. It takes a lot of noisy animal lovers to make change."

Joni Michels:

What music or artist are you listening to right now and it can be your own because it's awesome"

Jennie Devoe:

"I'm always excited to hear a cool new voice or a song that pulls me in. Ya know I’m into the Red Clay Strays. I also like Lola Young’s voice . I love Raye’s voice. I like hearing stuff that inspires me to write or makes me wish I had written what I’m hearing."

The big giant names are kept afloat by labels but most artists are not. 2025 Veterans Day Freebies and Deals In Central Indiana

Our family hero! My Dad was a decorated Korean Army War Vet part of the sniper unit and airborne division. He loved his band of brothers on the Korean hill and many were lost in battles. I remember him telling me once that he strived to live a life of strong ethics to honor the brothers he fought beside. I had wonderful life lessons from this great man that's in my heart every day.

Every year, the nation celebrates Veterans Day to honor those who have or currently serve in the U.S. military.

With that comes restaurants and businesses offering a token of their appreciation, with discounts and freebies.

Keep in mind, most places will require some form of proof of military service - like a military ID, VA card or discharge papers - to redeem available offers. All businesses listed are offering the deal or freebie on Veterans Day unless specified otherwise. This is what I found and if I missed someone I'm sorry.

Applebee's

All veterans and active-duty military will get a free meal when they dine-in.

A valid military ID or proof of U.S. military service is required.

Bubba's 33

All veterans — including active, retired or former U.S. military — can choose one of six entrees, including a Classic Cheeseburger, Bubba’s Bacon Burger, Bacon Chicken Mac-n-Cheese, Grilled Chicken Salad, Chicken Tender Salad or any 12-inch pizza, plus a choice of any Coca-Cola product, sweet tea/iced tea or coffee during lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 11.

IHOP

From 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Nov. 11, veterans and active duty military personnel can get two free buttermilk pancakes— topped with glazed strawberries, blueberry topping and whipped topping— served with two eggs, hash browns, and your choice of two strips of crispy hickory-smoked bacon or two pork sausage links.

O'Charley's

O’Charley’s is offering a free entree. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11, veterans and active duty military can order one of the following free entrées. This offer is for dine-in only.

The special menu includes:

Salisbury Steak – An 8 oz. Salisbury steak topped with savory brown gravy, Cajun onions and mushrooms, and fried onion tanglers. Served with two sides
Shrimp Scampi – A generous helping of shrimp tossed with linguini noodles in house-made scampi sauce, topped with tomatoes, red pepper flakes, and shaved parmesan.

Starbucks

The world's largest coffee chain is offering a free tall hot coffee for veterans, active military service members and military spouses at all U.S. Starbucks stores.

White Castle

The fast-food chain is offering a free individual combo meal or breakfast combo meal to all veterans and active-duty service members.

No purchase is necessary, but they will be asked to show a military ID.

Somehow "Thank-you" doesn't seem like it's enough! If you see someone in the military on Veteran's Day go up to them and say thank you or give them a smile. It will mean more to them than you know!

Indiana Joni's Adventure On Wheels For Your Dog!

"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself." I've always been a dog person and have had a dog in my life since I was a toddler and sharing my Cheerios with 'Muffin, my parents first "fur baby" before I came along. She was my protector, my play buddy, and ate the yucky stuff I didn't want off my plate and she was also my first love affair with a furry friend.

My family always adopted shelter dogs and when I was out on my own I kept with that loving tradition with shelter dogs and rescue dogs Cuddles, Ginger, Vinnie & Mona, and now Lilly & Sonny (brother and sister). The pain is unbearable when we lose them but the love they give us unconditionally is more than they will ever know. I'm proud of my shelter pups and aways say that they rescued me!

And making sure that they are happy, loved and taken care of is a top priority in my life. And that includes plenty of recreation. And if you're a pet mom like me, there are times the guilt sets in because we can't them out as much to run, and play, and socialize. Because dogs are pack animals and need that socialization.

Hidden Treasures in the Fort Ben Area: Let's Get Salty

"Fort Ben" is an historic district and surrounding community in Lawrence, Indiana, that grew around the former Fort Benjamin Harrison military post. The area blends its historical military past with modern amenities and recreational opportunities. I think it's the perfect outing for a girls trip, family trip, or even a picnic in the park for a date.

Hidden treasures surrounding Fort Ben include The Indianapolis Salt Cave , a tranquil Halotherapy center located in a historic firehouse. If the great outdoors and nature are your thing, you should explore the extensive trails and natural beauty of Fort Harrison State Park. Other unique spots include the Theater at the Fort for community spirit, live theater productions or a movie!

When I'm looking for some healthy relaxation that won't break the break I like to visit the Indianapolis Salt Cave. I've gone with a group of friends, for birthday celebrations, and even solo just to turn off, relax, and transform my mental and physical health!

The Indianapolis Salt Cave, located in a historic firehouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, is a Halotherapy Wellness Center and Holistic Spa offering various types of salt therapies and holistic treatments. Indiana Joni's Halloween TV Pick Of The Week! "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" Watch for FREE

" Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker " - Linus from "The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown". No truer words were ever spoken by an animated kindergartener! And it's just one of the memorable lines from a beloved Peanuts characters that I remember and cherish to this day. Just one more reason I've got to have my Peanuts fix every holiday season.

"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," the classic Halloween special, won't air on broadcast television this spooky season, but it will be available to stream for FREE — but only for one weekend.

Back in 2020, Apple TV+ became the new home to all things Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang, including the beloved holiday specials. This partnership has now been extended through 2030.

While the animated specials used to air on TV, this will be the fourth year in a row that you can only watch the Halloween special on Apple TV+. If you're already a subscriber, you can watch the Peanuts specials any time you want, all season long.

Before you say "good grief," Apple has announced it'll once again make all of the Charlie Brown holiday specials available for nonsubscribers to watch for free for a couple days each — just in time to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts gang.

"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" will be available to watch for free on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19.

Don't be disappointed this Halloween season without the nostalgic magic of The Peanuts gang. I remember as a kid watching this on Halloween night and sorting out my candy haul from my orange dyed pillow case! Back in the days when you got the full size candy bars! And one of my favorite scenes to this day is still "Restitution".

Fall In Indiana: A Leaf Turning Adventure!

Hey friends it's Indiana Joni and Fall has officially arrived (Sept. 22nd) bringing with it a canvas of glorious colors to enjoy in the great outdoors! I love Autumn for the apple picking, corn mazes, pumpkin patch visits, festivals and hayrides but especially for a Fall road trip to soak in the beauty of nature.

If you're looking for the perfect day trip to be awed by all the bright and bold colors of Fall, one of my favorite destinations is Brown County State Park . As a kid one of my first New Palestine grade school field trips (remember those!) was to BCSP. It was love at first sight with all the majestic trees and the fiery red, gold, orange, yellow leaves just ripe for the picking and the fallen leaves lining the park like a royal blanket! For me an annual road trip to Brown County to witness the changing leaves is nostalgic and reminds me of simple care free days growing up in the Hoosier State. And as an adult it's one of my favorite annual "besties" road adventures to make new memories and still get the warm and fuzees from being a kid!

Brown County has some of the most stunning foliage in the whole Midwest (if not the nation), and Fall is a pretty big deal! The largest state park in Indiana must have plenty of leaves to see, right? Heck yeah! Plenty of great colors, trails, vistas, lookout towers, and more. Whether you go on a hike, a mountain bike ride, a horseback ride, or simply a drive, there will be tons of chances to see the bold colors of Brown County. Be sure to check out Hesitation Point, the park’s most beloved vista. It’s great for snapping a scenic pic and catching the sunset! P.S. Go in the North Gate and you’ll get to drive through a covered bridge!

Brown County State Park

Just east of Bloomington and about an hour south of downtown Indianapolis, enter the park off IN-46. This is probably the place I visit most often because it's paved and wider. The two main entrances, West Gatehouse and North Gatehouse are around the corner from one another on IN-46. The West Gatehouse is closer to Bloomington and the North Gatehouse is closer to I-65.

Indiana Joni here with an "Adventure" in color & culture because I'm sharing some of my favorite destinations for famous murals in Central Indiana & beyond! Art adds so much to our world's beauty. Since I was a kid growing up in New Palestine, IN, I've been fascinated by large colorful paintings on walls, ceilings and other architectural surfaces. For me, murals are like powerful bridges connecting people with their environment and history.

When my parents took me camping and on vacation road trips we used to stop and snap photos at historical murals along our joy rides. (I'm talking the OG polaroid selfies) These beautiful pieces of art make cool photo ops for any kind of personalized card you want to create for special occasions. Or even the perfect profile picture in today's digital world. I like the fact that these photos are fun memory makers that last a lifetime!

Here are my top picks for notable murals that make for the perfect joy ride! (And no they're not ranked because art is in the eye of the beholder).

1. Greenfield

Hancock County has several notable murals in Greenfield. Many of the most notable murals were commissioned to create a "Riley Literary Trail," celebrating the county's heritage and the famous poet James Whitcomb Riley. My pick is in Greenfield "A Barefoot Boy". The large-scale mural is based on James Whitcomb Riley's poem of the same name. It's a timeless poem that captures the essence of growing up in the Midwest. The mural was painted by California artist Andrew Hern in 2018.

Location : West Main Street (U.S. 40) West of SR 9. Greenfield, IN 46140. It's in a parking lot or as I like to call it "Alley Art". There's easy free parking near the mural and plenty of local antique shops, boutiques, and locally owned diners! 2. Seymour

Seymour, IN isn't just A small town, it's the Theee small town, where Rock Icon JohnMellencamp was born! The mural is located on the side of "This Old Guitar Music Store", which was owned by the late Larry McDonald, who played in garage bands with Mellencamp when they were young. The mural was painted by local artist Pam Bliss and initiated by John Mellencamp on a surprise visit. The larger than life image shows present -day Mellencamp with an acoustic guitar while the smaller one shows him with a Seymour FFA jacket. I love this 'Little Ditty" mural about Indiana's own and Rock Hall of Famer, John Mellencamp.

3. Fountain Square - Indianapolis

The World Famous Hotboys mural in Fountain Square is a vibrant piece by artist Berk "Visual" Gibbs located on the north-west side of the World Famous HOTBOYS building at 1004 Virginia Ave. . The large-scale mural features many figures and objects, including an IndyCar, the Indianapolis skyline, skateboards, and flames, all in a red, yellow, and blue color scheme. You can view it from the restaurant's patio or the adjacent parking lot!
